My middle granddaughter Lisey is Grammy's girl. She's always been the "difficult" child for everyone, but I just "get" her. She's almost always an angel for me - and when she's not, there's almost always a good reason. LOL She speaks her mind, and we're trying to teach her not to be rude about it - it's a difficult concept for preschoolers to understand! Anyway, my favorite color is purple and so her favorite color has always been purple (hee hee - told ya she's Grammy's girl). Recently, she discovered the color teal and it became her new favorite color. When she turned 4, I had made her this canvas painting with a mermaid on it, painted in purples. The mermaid had a short hair cut - Lisey's hair is not short. So she says to me a few months ago, "Grammy, I don't like that mermaid painting anymore because I don't like purple and I don't have hair like that." ROFL So I said OK then - I'll have to make you a new one for your FIFTH birthday (which was last month)! I let HER choose the mermaid so there'd be no confusion and I painted it with shades of teal - her royal highness was definitely pleased. ;) I'd like to enter this into the following challenges:
If You Give a Crafter a Cookie #206 - Seashells at the Beach
Make My Monday #255 - Summer Fun
Paper Funday - Anything Goes/Optional Fun with Stencils
We Love Stamping - Anything Goes/Optional Sun, Sea, or Sand
Just Us Girls #782 - Die Week (specifically SUMMER DIES)
I painted a 10x13 canvas with Gesso and let it dry, then used acrylic paint to cover the whole thing. I used a mermaid scale stencil to apply a darker shade of teal acrylic paint through, and I let the whole thing dry. I then spritzed it with Mica Sprays and let it dry again. I printed out this old freebie Mermaid Anya from The Greeting Farm really large on plain copy paper, and colored her with Copics. I fussy cut her very carefully and used Mod Podge to attach her to the canvas. I die cut the letters for my little pumpkin's name (her nickname is Lisey) and die cut the sand dollars (I have DEFINITELY got my money's worth from this die - and this one - I use them ALL the time) and starfish, and attached them all using Mod Podge. I added a few "pearls" using the Pops of Color in Pearl Satin in the upper right corner. Peace.
What a cute and colorful little underwater scene on a canvas!!! The mermaid is so cute and the little die cut shell are the perfect touch. All of your techniques added up to a great project in our gallery at Just Us Girls! Thanks for joining us.
