Another Stamp Thief

Good morning friends!  I am just posting quickly today to warn you all of another person copying someone's art and trying to pass it off as their own.

The original artist who is an absolute sweetheart is Lori Boyd of By Lori Designs.  You can see her digi stamp shop here:

And the copycat is called The Paper Nest Dolls - I hate even directing traffic to her site (so I won't put her little badge here), but just so you can see the blatant copying, check it out here.

The "artist" has been bullying Lori and attempting to persuade Lori's past/present DT members to go design for her instead (and using designers cards without their permission on her site, etc.) ... how do people like this sleep at night?  I'm hoping she ends up finding her way here to see this post because I have a couple of questions for her.  Like:  How do you sleep at night?  How do you hold your head up high while telling people what you do for a living?  Do you teach your children to copy someone else's work and pass it off as their own?  You should be ashamed of yourself.

Please DO NOT SUPPORT The Paper Nest.  Do not enter their challenges, do not enter challenges they are sponsoring, do not use their images.  Support the ARTISTS - if you like the style of images at The Paper Nest, go see the ORIGINAL artist's site at By Lori Designs.  Thank you.  Peace.

    1. I am stunned and shocked that this continues and that people would even TRY it! I can see that resemblance, but believe me your IMAGES are far superior.

I hope you can report her and hope that everyone realized she stole copyright images....Oh MY...how can anyone do that!!

      So Sorry!

  2. I love that you are always trying to help shed light on thieves like this. You are such an amazing advocate for the REAL artists out there. And a true friend. Thank you for being so awesome.

  5. I was completely sucked in by this woman! She contacted me via email inquiring about sponsoring the challenge blog I run as she is a "new" stamp company/store, etc...so I thought "Hey how fun!" Little did I know what she has done. I myself do not own any images from By Lori Designs so it wasn't until a DT member of mine brought this to my attention and then yet another one sent me the link to this post. I am so embarrassed to say that I was "naive" enough to believe her and in her endeavors of a new stamp company! I will be taking this up with her directly as well as posting an apology on my challenge blog. So sorry to Lori!

  6. Well done Jenn for sticking up for Lori - who is one of the sweetest people I know!

I don't think the other lady (I use that in its loosest term!) will ever put a mirror up to her face and admit that she's just a plain thief.

  9. I'm sure you will remove this comment as soon as i write it, because that's whst people like you do . I have NEVER copied Lori Boyd or bullied anyone, if you knew me at all, you would know how ridiculous that is . HER design team members came to me!!! And I have proof of that . Which is kind of funny because they of all people are familiar with her work , so Iif they thought my work was a copy , why apply for my Desigh Team ????
This whole thing is a blatant attempt to discredit me and my work . Those that know me , know I've been selling for years .... and as far as style goes, it's called Line Art, and NO, Lori Boyd doesht own that " style ". If you knew anything about art , you should be able to quickly tell our work apart . My hair , ears , body , clothing and theme . even subtle details , like on my wrists .
The clothing I choose comes ( 90% of the time ) comes LITERALLY from my children's wardrobe !!!
After my kids go to bed, I spend countless hours drawing , it's what I love to do . I know I'm a talented artist , I don't need to copy Lori , or anytime else . I do tons of free lance work as well, and I've NEVER had an issue until I stepped into the Digi world !!! The thing is , you all don't want to be open minded . I am the ONLY one being bullied and lied about . Ask yourself , why did her past and present DT members apply to my team ?? I didn't seek them out !!!
And how dare you say I post cards without permission , they are MY stamps , I have permission !!! Not to mention the ones that I actually PAID to be done , and have MY daughters name on, who are you to tell me NOT to show those on my site ?????
And as far as how I sleep at night ... Just fine ! It's you that should have trouble . Anyone that does this to another person without so much as even getting my side of things before posting is someone I don't want to associate with anyway . This is just a bunch of drama for you all, but it's my life ....
I've spent many hours crying over what's been said here , and I'm done . I have my copyrights , and my attorney , I will get my day in court ....
In the mean time you all can have a blast acting like high school girls .

    1. I'm sorry you're upset, but maybe you should not have started making digi stamps that looked exactly like Lori's. Purchasing a card from someone and then using the digi stamp design from the card to create your own digi stamp is unethical and wrong. You did not have permission to post someone's CARD on Digi Galore and that is one of the reasons your group was removed. You cannot pretend to have the support of people who you have somehow manipulated or otherwise lied to about why you are purchasing their art. I stand by my post and I support Lori. It's interesting that despite all the controversy, you've yet to address the issue publicly on your own blog or Facebook or anywhere. Every person I've heard from agrees with me and supports Lori. I don't see it as acting like high school girls - it's funny you mention that because I hate drama. But I am am an adamant supporter of artists and my friends. If that makes me a high school drama queen, then hand me the crown. Good day.

    2. I was unawares that the artist of an image that I have rightfully purchased (and colored and made into a card) had the right to take that card off of another website ( that i chose to show it on) and display it on her own site. Without my permission ?????

  10. Your not going to post anything I say, which says a lot about you right there... One sided !!! If you wanted a real conversation , you would allow me a chance to talk as well . There is no doubt in my mind ... your one of those girjs that can dish it out , but you cant take it ... If you could , you wouldn't sensor the posts on you'r blog .
And for the record , I've been married 20 years , how dare you bring up wihat kind of mother I am to my children! Everything I do is for them ....

    1. As a matter of fact, I was sleeping at 1:09 a.m., not sitting up waiting for you to possibly read my blog and comment. I moderate my comments, yes, to avoid spam without using the annoying captcha thing, not that I owe you an explanation. I'm glad you're a good mom, good for you. Take care.

  11. jenn,

thats absurd, if i wanted to " copy " i wouldnt need to purchase anything, know what i mean ? they are clearly posted on the net watermark or not....
    thats ridiculous ....
and not that it matters, but i bought greeting farm, some odd girl, tiddly inks, etc. because my children and i color!! im copic certified jenn.....its that simple, not to copy!! as a matter of fact, if someone was going to " copy " someone, then wouldnt it be best to NOT purchase ????
my images are copyrighted with the US Library of Congress. furthermore, Stamp Out asked me to remove a few images, and while i didnt have to, i have ....there were about 4-5 that they were worried about . i NO LONGER sell those.....i wanted to keep peace. I wish you would truly look at my work, especially my NEW images, and if you were honest with youself, you would admit we are different, in MANYYY ways....and that i too am a good artist.
and by the way, i have permission to use every card on my site, nowo that this has happned, i had someone ask me to remove theirs because they wanted to say " neutral " , thats all. I have the email where i said i am using it to promot my stamps.....so please dont br petty. I am the one being bullied, so dont dare say that I AM the bully..
just ask yourself, why did HER design team members ( 2 of them ) apply when i had my open call ?
    Christine
    * i do appreciate you posting my comments

  13. I hate thieving so much... but I do feel the need to speak up here.
I have followed Lori's blog for a long time now ... and naturally have taken an interest in The Paper Nest because she has a similar style.
But in all honesty - after looking very carefully from seeing this disturbing post... all that I can see is similarity.

I don't see direct copying for what that will be worth... I don't abide image theft in any way, shape or form.... but I also like things to be fair...
So I have to be honest and say that I truly cannot see the copying from the current images up on The Paper Nest.

    Hugs

    1. Hi Karen, it doesn't need to be direct copying . . . under copyright law, From my experience, what Christine is doing is called "Derivative Art." Derivative art based on a copyrighted piece of original art is only allowed to be done by the copyight owner. Basically, Lori does derivatives of her Puddle Jumper images each time she does a Puddle Jumper. Christine is ALSO doing derivatives of Lori's Puddle Jumpers -- which is a copyright violation. In a court case, a judge would determine if a "reasonable person" would assume that Christine could have created her image without being aware of Lori's. Since so many reasonable poeple have alerted Lori about Christine's images -- I pretty much think there's already a "verdict" there. Especially since Lori can prove that Christine was a customer of hers well before she started trying to draw a line of stamps.

Jenn, all of us artists really appreciate crafters like you who look out for illustrators who have spent years developing a unique style. This trend of amateur artists deciding to "copy" an existing style is really low.

  14. I'd like to make something clear here, too - I didn't just stumble across this company and come to this conclusion on my own. I actually thought the images were really cute, but that they looked almost exactly like the digi stamps from By Lori Designs. Yes, there are also stamps that are different from Lori's. But I heard from several friends who felt manipulated and duped personally by The Paper Nest. I knew Lori was actually making herself physically sick over it. I'm just not the kind of person to sit back and wait for "someone else" to finally say something. So I wrote my blog post. I find it ironic that those who are always talking about lawyers and lawsuits and drama and such always seem to be the ones causing the drama and needing the lawyers, etc. Can't we all just play nice and enjoy our art and creativity? I never like to cause someone else heartache, ever. But I think to myself "what if that was ME?" And I just know that one of the wonderful friends I've made in this community would go to bat for me. So I have to do it for them. But you all absolutely have the right to draw your own conclusions and do what you feel is right in your hearts. Thank you all for sharing your opinions and comments.

  15. This lady Christine is a scammer and she owes me plenty of money. She gets people to buy from her and then she doesn't ship. I have an image she sent me just several days ago, where she was trying to research Day of the Dead, and what she came up with was Krista's Saturated Canary image, and she drew one which I have with the spider web on the forehead. She uses that sad story that she is crying and sad to play people. She wants people to feel sorry for her. Horrible lady, horrible artist.
