Movie Magic Monthly: Romeo & Juliet vs. Moulin Rouge and In the Pink: Anything Goes with PINK

Wow - I woke up in the middle of the night to the most incredible thunder and lightning storm!  Around 1:00 a.m. our power went out briefly, and when it came back on the smoke alarms all went off for a few seconds.  I jumped out of bed and met my kids in the living room - my daughter was holding her kitty and he was just shaking, the poor thing!  We've lived here for over a year now, and this was the first storm we've seen/heard.  Powerful, scary, yet beautiful.  This morning it's foggy and chilly, and I think I'll catch up on some house-cleaning and make Father's Day cards for Jeremy & for his dad.  :) And as I just typed that, I heard a pretty loud rumble in the distance.  Maybe I should unplug this computer for a bit!

Today we have a new challenge for you at:

So the idea at our movie challenge is to take 2 movies and pair them up against each other.  Throughout the month, the DT will post projects based on the 2 movies with the hopes of inspiring you all to play along!  This month, I went with Romeo & Juliet, using a past freebie image from Sassy Studio which I merged with a Romeo & Juliet quote that I found online.  I created a bookmark, I used some DP from My Mind's Eye, some gemstone stickers, and I tied a ribbon through it with a heart charm threaded through the ribbon.  I am also linking this up with the:

Hope you all have a great day/week!  Peace.

Top Tip Tuesday: Numbers & Polkadoodles: B-day with Scraps

Hi there - talk about what a difference a day can make, yesterday it was over 100 degrees and today we were lucky if it went over 70!  LOL  I spent yesterday at my craft table, this is a card I made for my friend to give her son, who is turning 21.  I'm entering it into the:

I printed the numbers onto a piece of white cardstock and then onto DP, and paper-pieced them.  All DP, buttons, and brads are from Stampin' Up!  My "tip" is to use your scraps as accent pieces - I printed the "Happy Birthday" sentiments onto 2 pieces of scrap (I use adhesive to attach the scrap to a piece of full size paper so it doesn't get stuck in the printer) and then attached one as a border/strip and used a circle punch for the other.
Peace.

WW & JSL Reminders

Hi everyone - dinner yesterday was awesome, the prime rib came out perfectly and the house stayed nice and cool.  Ready for round 2 today - we expect it to be over 100 here.  Perfect day for catching up on my craft projects, dontcha think?  :)  We have a reminder post for you today at:

I used the freebie we are currently offering for this challenge, the sweet chickens.  I found this henhouse coloring page online and printed it onto some wood-grain patterned paper, then attached the chickens to the front of it and used some coordinating DP for the background.  I added a sentiment from Designed2Delight/From the Heart, again printed onto that same DP.  I kept the embellishments simple, just adding a button.  Come play along with us!  Have a great weekend!  Peace.

Dilly Beans: Summertime

Happy Friday!  Today's weather is totally appropriate for our new challenge at:

Let's just say I'm very thankful for central air today... we are cooking a prime rib dinner for Jeremy's mom's birthday.  I thought tomorrow was going to be "the hot day" - and it is, expected to be over 100 - but today is going to be in the 90's.  So.  My card uses one of our new mermaid images, #557 - Kia Mermaid, and she's colored with Prismacolor pencils & mineral spirits and some Stickles.  My paper is from MME, I love how some of the 6x6 pads come with smaller sized "embellishments" that you can cut out and use on your cards.  I added a fat ribbon and some gemstone stickers - I'm sorta-kinda addicted to gemstone/pearl stickers, if you hadn't figured that out by now.  ;)  Stay cool, my friends!  Peace.

All That Stickles - Turquoise

Hello!  It's another beautiful day here in northern California!  I think I've spent more time outside in the past year than I did in the 5 years previous to that.  I really love the sunshine and warmth and I feel guilty not going out to enjoy it, I guess I still have a little of that New England mindset of when it's warm out you better get out there and enjoy it because it probably won't last long.  LOL  I don't have to worry about that here, but there is still something about just being outside and breathing all that fresh air... I love it.  It makes me feel good.  But before I go enjoy it today, here's a little card I made for the:

I used Butterfly Blue from Sweet Pea Stamps, colored with Prismacolor pencils & mineral spirits and Turquoise Stickles (wings, gems in her hair).  I added a ribbon, butterfly charm, and a sentiment from Scrap-a-licious Times Sentiments.  Enjoy your day!  Peace.

Meg & WW

As most of you know, I have been sending mail to cancer patients for many years now (please check out Chemo Angels if you'd like to read about this fabulous opportunity to bring a smile to a cancer patient).  Back in 2007, my friend Chris found out that a friend of his from work had a daughter who had been diagnosed with cancer, and he asked me if I would be willing to add her to my list of kids to send "happy mail" to.  Of course I said yes - she lived in Rhode Island, not far from me at all, and her name was Megan.  Meg.  She was 11 years old and had 2 older sisters who adored her.  I began sending her mail, and she wrote back to me.  Her mom, Teresa, wrote to me as well, and we developed a friendship.  I remember looking forward to the day when Meg was all better - cured - and we'd be able to meet in person and celebrate.

As the months went on, Meg got sicker and sicker.  Right before Christmas of 2007, Teresa asked if she could bring Meg to meet me.  Of course I said yes, and I was so excited as I waited for them to show up at my house.  When they arrived, they were piled high with gifts for me.  A basket full of gifts that clearly showed they had paid attention to all of the little things I mentioned in my cards and letters... but the one item I have to tell you about is the kitty blanket.  LOL  Meg made it for me - she knew I loved kitties and she took the time, sick as she was, to make me one of those fleece blankets that you tie together... I can't even tell you how much this blanket means to me.  Every time one of the ties comes undone and I tie it back up, I picture Meg's little hands tying it for me...  I snuggle with this blanket while I watch TV, or when I'm sick, or when I just want to feel sorry for myself and cry.  And I feel Meg's presence when I do.  I'm so thankful for that.

So - five years ago today, June 5, 2008.  When I found out that Meg had passed away, I went through such an array of emotions.... anger at something so damn unfair happening to such good people.  Sadness that my little buddy was gone.  Relief that she wouldn't be sick and suffer anymore.  Guilt for not having done more.  I wanted to attend her funeral with Chris, but he ended up not being able to go and I just couldn't do it alone.  I felt horrible about that and still do, five years later, but I am at peace with it because I feel in my heart that Meg knew, knows, how very much I love her and that she will always be in my heart.

This is the card I sent to Teresa & John, Meg's wonderful parents, in recognition of this anniversary:

Her parents called her their little bumblebee (if you remember, I had a bumblebee tattooed on my left wrist for her) - I used an image from Spesch Designs called Spring Bee, colored with Prismacolor pencils & mineral spirits.  DP is from MME, I added some little text stickers and gemstone stickers, along with a piece of fun frilly pink ribbon.  The funny thing is, this card started out completely different - I printed the image and intended to make the card with subtle, vintagey colors - but I felt led towards pinks and bright colors and couldn't help but think Meg was the one leading me.  I had been thinking of her a lot that day, and crying, and I remember saying "OK Meg, if you want a pink crown, you got it."  LOL  I love the way it came out.  I wish so very much that I could have sent it to Meg herself instead of to her parents.  *sigh*

I really wanted today's post to be all about sweet Meg, so I made my ATC with her in mind for our new challenge at:

I am also entering this one into the:

Sparkles Monthly Challenge: Monochromatic

 and
Quirky Crafts: Black and White with One Color

I used a headstone image from our sponsor, Smeared Ink, combined with a pair of angel wings that I covered in glitter.  I printed them both onto DP from MME, then fussy-cut and adhered to an ATC I had covered with the same paper.  Added a strip of torn coordinating paper along the bottom and attached the charm with a silver brad.  The bee is from Dilly Beans.
I love you, Meg, and you will always be in my heart and in my thoughts.  Peace.

Skull Appreciation Day Blog Hop!

Hello friends - welcome to the:

You should have arrived here from Evil Edna's blog.  I've got 2 projects to share with you for today's hop.  My fellow teamies and I at the Movie Magic Monthly Challenge blog decided to play along by creating projects based on a movie.  My card is based on Pirates of the Caribbean, one of my all-time favorite movies:

I found this image at a "free coloring pages" site online, printed it on kraft cardstock and colored with Prismacolor pencils & mineral spirits, then covered his eye patch with Black Diamond Stickles.  I used a piece of Tim Holtz Kraft map paper crumpled up and dragged through a gray ink pad for the background.  Embellies include black pearls (get it?  The Black Pearl?  ;)  I'm so clever, right? hee hee), a little Glow Skull, and a skull key charm. Head on over to see what the other DT members created!

I could not resist using this freebie from Rick St. Dennis for my personal project for this fun hop:

I printed the image onto my DP from Authentique, and colored it with Prismacolor pencils & mineral spirits.  I created a round card base with my Coluzzle, and then used smaller circles for the image and to layer behind it.  I added some gemstone stickers, some text and alpha stickers, white fun flock on the feathers, and this little flower I had in my stash that happened to match perfectly.  I love how this came out!

And I figured I might as well enter him into the Rick St. Dennis Airless Chambers Challenge:  Anything But a Square/No Sharp Corners

OK now off you go to Steph's page - have fun hopping!  Peace.
